As a hobby I compete in powerlifting so have a keen interest in building strength and power with my patients, tailoring treatments to their condition or ability.

In that time, I have worked for a number of local rugby teams, from grassroots to being included in the county setup and I currently work pitch-side for the York RI Women’s team. I have also worked high volume events including the London Marathon in 2019 and 2023.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What type of treatments does Physiotherapy involve?

All Physiotherapists work differently.  I use my skills in Pilates and rehabilitation to ensure that the correct muscles are working and doing the job they’re designed to do.  I use manual techniques to manipulate and mobilise joints and muscles.  Why? Sometimes joints can become stiff and therefore reduce movement, causing pain and dysfunction.  I also use a variety of massage techniques to reduce swelling, pain and increase range of movement.  In addition to this I am qualified in dry needling, which is similar to Acupunture but is only used to treat tension in muscles ‘trigger points’ which are tight spots in muscles.  They can be painful and cause dysfunction in the muscles.

If you would like further information on any of these techniques, just ask.  All potential treatments are discussed with you and we find one that you’re happy with.

In a relatively short time, Emma’s targeted exercises have helped strengthen and stabilize my core, spine and other joints, which has in turn reduced the associated pain and muscle spasms. I can now do more aerobic exercise which has hugely improved my quality of life”

Emma McCabe has been my Physiotherapist for the past two years. She has helped me enormously with her kind, gentle, diligent and very knowledgeable approach. She has become a valued friend, whom I can highly recommend.
